2007 Sand Castle Competition @ 09:01 am

I subscribe to Dr. Mercola's newsletter and most of the time he sends links for health related articles, but it was neat to see one that was about sand castles. Follow the link to the article. You may have to sign up for newsletters to see the article, I'm not sure, but it's easy to discontinue them if you don't like them.

Because I live too far from the beach @ 12:10 am

Living hundreds of miles from a beach I don't often get to play in the sand. So when my husband and I had a few hours to spare on our honeymoon guess what I did. These photos were taken in Ireland a little less then a year ago out on the Blasket Islands. I didn't get to work as long as I wanted since we were waiting for our ferry at the time.

The consept was inspired by a seal hanging out on the beach. I was making a woman and a seal, the seal is resting his head on her leg. I was going to make her be a selkie orginally, but figured I didn't have the time to make it come together right.

The first two are me working, my husband had the camera.

Sand Sculptures @ 11:58 am

Since I don't live near a beach, and don't have any of my former projects on the computer -yet- I thought I'd post some pictures that someone sent me in a e-mail. I'm sorry to say that I don't know where they came from or who made them. Enjoy anyway though.

Today, I did my first proper sand sculpture. I am cut at myself for not having my camera with me. My first one was a caw emerging out of the sand. For un-artistic me, it was alarmingly good. My Second one was a retro boat, which was excellent (no bias, of course) I also build a sandcastle. Every time I go to the beach, I experiment in building techinques, so maybe within the next few weeks, I will tell you which techniques work, and you can also share which techniques work for you!
